Create a Physical Barrier

If they were not already, Sydney residents were likely to be grateful for having screen doors installed in their homes when extreme mosquito activity came about. Screen doors and windows not only provide privacy, they also help keep dirt, dust, and unwanted insects and animals outside. Check your vents and chimney regularly, if you have one. Have them serviced and cleaned properly, so they can maintain peak performance.

Another way to create a physical barrier is to plant mosquito repellent plants. A quick search online will show you the wide variety of flowering and non-flowering plants you can add to your garden to keep mosquitoes away.

Stop Them from Breeding

Most mosquitoes can travel distances of one to three miles. Despite this, you can still do something to prevent the growth of mosquito population by keeping them from breeding in your yard.

Check all receptacles where water might collect. These include empty pots, bird baths and pet water dishes. If you have kids, check their outdoor toys as well. A regular check and clean-up of your gutters and drains will likewise help keep mosquitoes from finding a place to nest.

Take note that mosquitoes also enjoy resting where there are thick bunches of plants. Keep your garden tidy to avoid infestation. If you have a fish pond, keeping the vegetation at a minimum will make the pond a less tempting place to reside.

In the same way that you put on sunscreen to avoid getting sunburned, be sure to put on insect repellents, especially when mosquito season rolls around. This way, you can be sure that you are protected inside or outside your home.
